Pulp fiction got me spinning

People hate abstract, that’s a fact which is true as being shown to the people by these people. Some people want to be different, and they prove it by loving anything abstract. Some people want to be a part of the larger crowd and term the ‘abstract loving’ people as crazy or ‘what the hell does he think he is doing’ kind. But I guess deep down people do want to get attached to the abstract. I mean that thing had got a bit of mystery about it. And we love mystery because we all assume a hope out of anything unknown. So basically it’s the faith. Now I am talking like a dope junkie myself, coz I had seen PULP FICTION last night. I loved it, coz it was so abstract. But I still would like to know, what did the end of that movie meant. I am not ashamed to own up my not so urban schooling n all. But I think I am still not that dumb (looks can be deceptive though!). But after the movie I was in a bit of a daze. A big fan of QUENTIN TARANTINO, and I should be ashamed of myself. I hope he himself read this blog and explains the movie to me.

Hi Sunil.....

Well I love TARANTINO to the"T" and hence would answer it...But before understanding 'Pulp Fiction' u must know the concept of ' non-linear story lines'. They dont necessarily say sumthing definite, but are very acute in treatment, the dialogues and the fluidity of the film. If u have seen other films of his, as reservoir dogs or Kill bill or death proof; you must have felt the same.

Coming to pulp fiction, I can only say what i understood of it. I watched it when i was an undergraduate and this was my first Tarantino film... and then i got hooked.

Pulp fiction, classically, is a tribute to the pulp novels of the 20's. High on drama, violence and culture (pop or rock) and low on storyline. but the film is a masterpiece coz its a classic example of early neo-noir or "black humor" as we call it popularly.

Back home, Anurag tried to make "No smoking" on the same lines but failed because he lost connect with people last 20 minutes of the film.

If you remember, there is a scene in the film, when Travolta and Jackson after killing 2 men, suddenly encounter a third, who, fires 6 shots at Jackson and misses them all...to be killed of one shot.

This for me, is the theme of the film...either u understand it at 1 shot or u miss all 6 of them. Pulp fiction is just an abstract collage of very stimulating, interesting and shocking stories, each of them capable of being converted into a feature film. each sequence had that potential.. and a genius like Tarantino, could only think of putting them all together is such twisted dark way.

If you like his work, u must follow Christopher Nolan as well...equally good!!
